School Description:

The mission of UAGC is to provide a community of caring and guidance for academic, financial, mental health, and career support while providing a path that makes quality college education accessible to adult learners through online, flexible degree and certificate programs. The University was founded in 1918 in Clinton, IA, was first accredited in 1950, and has maintained its institutional accreditation since that time. In 2005, the University was acquired by Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (later known as Zovio), and renamed Ashford University (AU). AU’s headquarters moved in 2011 from Clinton to San Diego, CA. The University was granted accreditation by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) in 2013. In August 2020, the University of Arizona (UA), a public land-grant institution governed by the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR), announced its intent to create a new nonprofit entity, the University of Arizona Global Campus (UAGC), and to acquire AU from Zovio. AU became UAGC in December 2020 with Zovio acting as an online program manager (OPM) providing services including student advising, financial aid, and instructional design. In August 2022, UAGC acquired the OPM assets from Zovio. Effective June 30, 2023, the UA acquired substantially all the assets of UAGC. UA now operates UAGC as a distinct operating unit within a single public institution. UAGC maintains separate institutional accreditation from WSCUC and the US Department of Education (ED) continues to consider UAGC a separate institution for Title IV federal student aid administration and other ED purposes. UAGC has maintained approval with the EAP since 2007 and operates in other states. UAGC provides online associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree programs and offers just over 50 programs in the fields of business, criminal justice, education, health care, information technology, liberal arts, and social and behavioral sciences. UAGC offers a convenient online format, flexible class schedules, and relevant degree programs which make higher education accessible to a wide range of students. 26% of UAGC students are associated with the military and receive a military benefit. 87% of students are over the age of 25, 65% are female, and they are more likely to be persons of color or from ethnic minority groups. There are no specific pre-requisites other than requirements for admission as outlined in the Academic Catalog.
