School Description:

The goal of the dental assisting program which will be taught in our school is to provide the best possible hands-on training in the shortest time possible without sacrificing good educational standards. The program utilizes a hands-on educational approach where students learn by doing.

Dr. Michaels recognized the need for well-trained, efficient chair side dental assistants and found difficulty getting good assistants throughout his years in practice.

Our program is an excellent alternative to the nine- to twelve-month full-time programs offered by certain other educational institutions. These institutions sometimes charge as much as five times the fee of what our accelerated program charges. Our program is particularly attractive for working students because our classes are offered after office hours or Saturdays as opposed to the nine-to twelve-month courses that require full-time attendance.

Oconomowoc Dental Care will help prepare interested persons in becoming part of the dental profession and assuming a position as a well-respected professional.

The Wisconsin Dental Assistant School was established and approved by the EAB on December 8, 2011.

Our school has one location, only, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.

Our training is an 85 hour accelerated course which includes a basis of dental ethics and legal issues. Our students learn digital radiography, infection control, composition of the teeth and dental terminology. Head and neck anatomy, which includes the bones of the head, and muscles of the head, neck and TMJ. Students are taught tooth numbering for permanent and decidious teeth; dental charting and how to write up a treatment plan; taking and pouring of impressions; and making whitening trays. They learn about dental materials and the various set-ups and procedures for amalgams, composites, pulpotomoy/pulpectomies,crown and bridge and endodontic procedures. The American Heart Association CPR course is part of the training.

Our students come from various walks of life. Our typical student, regardless of age, is looking to enter the dental field and start a new career and to better themselves. They generally are very outgoing, caring individuals who like to help others.

There are no pre-requisites to take this course.
